Move complex PLM data to the cloud with confidence. That’s better.

Challenge

The project involved migrating more than 53 TB of engineering data and 28 million records from multiple legacy PLM applications spread across sites, regions, and languages into a unified cloud environment. Significant challenges included handling non-standardized and poor-quality legacy data, managing varying source system architectures and server latencies, and reconciling regional configuration differences while ensuring data accuracy and integrity. The team also had to execute high-volume data extraction, transformation, and validation within tight timelines without compromising security, business continuity, or system performance.

Solution

We delivered a comprehensive PLM migration and cloud enablement program covering implementation, integration, migration, training, and post-go-live support.

Our engagement began with blueprinting across all business units, including as-is and to-be analysis, fit-gap assessment, and business process solutioning. This helped create a common PLM foundation while addressing the unique requirements of different business units and process areas.

To support enterprise connectivity, we enabled integrations using the customer’s Enterprise Service Bus, connecting Teamcenter with SAP, Salesforce, Teamcenter Product Cost Management, and other business applications. The program covered key process areas including RFQ management, product development, BOM management, MCAD integrations, EDA integrations, classification, part standardization, part qualification, release and change management, and visualization.

For migration, Tata Technologies used an ETL-based approach supported by internally developed scripts. A modular data extraction framework enabled connection to multiple databases, reducing development time and improving repeatability. SQL Server Integration Services was used for extraction and transformation, while multi-threaded physical data download was designed based on server latency.

The team also managed source-to-staging metadata extraction, transformation, vault-to-cloud data download, and multiple delta extractions to identify data change trends. Framework Data Provider and data cleansing methods helped address legacy data quality issues, regional differences, and formatting challenges.

Beyond migration, Tata Technologies provided user training, OCM and PLM awareness, hypercare, cloud infrastructure support, and application maintenance services across over a three-year period. This included L2 and L3 support and warranty coverage post go-live, ensuring the platform remained stable, scalable, and business-ready.

The transformation enabled the customer to replace legacy systems, migrate complex engineering data to the cloud, and establish a stronger foundation for global PLM collaboration. By combining migration automation, cloud infrastructure support, and long-term application maintenance, Tata Technologies helped the customer progress its OnePLM journey with greater speed, consistency, and confidence.
